From Van to High Street: How Crumbs & Grind Co is Winning in Southport

We’ve all had those ideas we’ve been “toying with” for years. Usually, they stay as daydreams while we’re stuck in traffic on the M62.

But for Southport mum Yasmine Walby-Dyer, a split-second decision to buy a food truck turned into a massive success story.

Yasmine is the owner of Crumbs & Grind Co. In less than a year, she has gone from impulsively buying a food van to preparing to open a permanent café on Market Street.

While locals love her cheesy chicken loaded fries and beef bagels, her rapid growth isn’t just about the food—it’s about understanding what her community actually needs.

It’s Not Just About the Coffee

Yasmine’s background isn’t actually in catering; it’s in counseling and psychology. When she decided to move from the van to a brick-and-mortar shop, she brought that experience with her.

She noticed a gap in Southport. There are plenty of pubs and plenty of generic coffee chains, but she felt there was nowhere for people—especially those feeling a bit lonely—to just go and “have a natter” in a safe, alcohol-free environment.

She told the Echo, “I want it to be a place where people can come and talk.”

By focusing on connection, she’s building a loyal tribe of customers who aren’t just coming for the chilli potato tots—they are coming because they feel welcome. She’s turned a café into a community hub.

A Quick Look at Their Digital Presence

We had a quick look online, and Crumbs & Grind Co is doing a fantastic job on social media. Their photos of the food look incredible, and they are clearly building a buzz.

However, we noticed one small missing piece: a dedicated website.

While social media is great, it’s like renting a house—the algorithm can change the locks at any time. Having your own simple website is like buying your own home online.

Why it matters (and costs less than you think):

  • Google Search: A website helps you show up when people search “Best Lunch in Southport” (not just when they scroll Instagram).
  • Control: You own the content. No fighting with algorithms to reach your own followers.
  • Low Cost: You don’t need a £5,000 mega-site. A simple, “brochure” style site that shows your menu, opening times, and your story costs very little to set up and run.

It’s the final piece of the puzzle to make a local business look 100% professional.

💡 The “L1” Lesson for Your Business

You don’t need to serve loaded fries to use Yasmine’s strategy. Here is how you can apply this to your own business in Liverpool:

1. Stop Being a “Mystery Business”
People buy from people. Yasmine’s story of the “impulse buy” van makes her relatable. Does your website tell your story? If you’re a local lad or lass helping local people, say so! Don’t hide behind a corporate logo.

2. Solve a Real Emotional Problem
Yasmine solved the problem of loneliness, not just hunger. What do your customers really struggle with?
Example: If you’re a plumber, you aren’t just fixing pipes; you are fixing the panic a parent feels when water is leaking through the ceiling. Talk about peace of mind, not just wrenches.

"By day, I turn caffeine into clean, fast-loading code. By night… I’m probably still doing that. My job is to ensure your website isn't just a pretty face, but a powerful, lead-generating machine. If it's broken, I'll fix it. If it doesn’t exist yet, I'll build it."Superpower An uncanny ability to break things and then heroically fix them.
